The Fourth commandment

Exodus 20

The Fourth Commandment

8 “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. 11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.

I hear very often people telling me that the fourth commandment tells everyone that you need to keep the seventh day holy, and yes, I’d agree. However this is not the seventh day of a recurring week. It is the seventh day of the week which fitted into the lunar month.

How do I know? Exodus 16 shows us.

1 And they journeyed from Elim, and all the congregation of the children of Israel came to the Wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after they departed from the land of Egypt. Then the whole congregation of the children of Israel complained against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness. And the children of Israel said to them, “Oh, that we had died by the hand of the Lord in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the pots of meat and when we ate bread to the full! For you have brought us out into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger.”

So thus far we know we are on the fifteenth day of the month.

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you. And the people shall go out and gather a certain quota every day, that I may test them, whether they will walk in My law or not. And it shall be on the sixth day that they shall prepare what they bring in, and it shall be twice as much as they gather daily.”

So we know that Manna was going to fall for six days, for on the sixth day they needed to gather twice as mucb. But why?

22 And so it was, on the sixth day, that they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for each one. And all the rulers of the congregation came and told Moses.23 Then he said to them, “This is what the Lord has said: ‘Tomorrow is a Sabbath rest, a holy Sabbath to the Lord. Bake what you will bake today, and boil what you will boil; and lay up for yourselves all that remains, to be kept until morning.’” 24 So they laid it up till morning, as Moses commanded; and it did not stink, nor were there any worms in it. 25 Then Moses said, “Eat that today, for today is a Sabbath to the Lord; today you will not find it in the field. 26 Six days you shall gather it, but on the seventh day, the Sabbath, there will be none.”

Because the sixth day was the day before the Sabbath. In verse 23 it says:

Screen Shot 2014-03-31 at 11.06.17 pm

It was a Holy convocation – (A Sabbath of rest)

This in conjunction with the first day of the month, shown in Acts 20:6-7 shows that the Sabbaths occured on the 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th days.

The Two witnesses

Revelation 11 talks about two witnesses. Then in Matthew 17, Jesus is transfigured on the mountain.

1 Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, led them up on a high mountain by themselves; and He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light. And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him. Then Peter answered and said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here; if You wish, let us make here three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”

While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!” And when the disciples heard it,they fell on their faces and were greatly afraid. But Jesus came and touched them and said, “Arise, and do not be afraid.” When they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only.

Now as they came down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, saying, “Tell the vision to no one until the Son of Man is risen from the dead.”

10 And His disciples asked Him, saying, “Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”

11 Jesus answered and said to them, “Indeed, Elijah is coming first and will restore all things. 12 But I say to you that Elijah has come already, and they did not know him but did to him whatever they wished. Likewise the Son of Man is also about to suffer at their hands.” 13 Then the disciples understood that He spoke to them of John the Baptist.

The Sabbath day – It was a Feast!!

I just love the way God shows me things!

Everyone has been telling me that the Feasts were a separate to the Sabbath day. And then God shows me this. I’ve read it many times before, but didn’t see it until now. Hallelujah!!

Leviticus 23

1 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 2 “Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them: ‘The feasts of the Lord, which you shall proclaim to be holy convocations, these are My feasts.

The Sabbath

3 ‘Six days shall work be done, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of solemn rest, a holy convocation. You shall do no work on it; it is the Sabbath of the Lord in all your dwellings.

The Sabbath is a holy convocation unto the Lord. This is one of his Feasts.

Ellen White – Her views

Some points Ellen White has made.

The student of the Bible should be taught to approach it in the spirit of a learner, We are to search its pages, not for proof to sustain our opinions, but in order to know what God says. {Ed 189.1}

We have many lessons to learn, and many many to unlearn. God and heaven alone are infallible. Those who think that they will never have to give up a cherished view, never have the occasion to change an opinion, will be disappointed. – {1 Selected Messages, p37}

I saw that the Bible was the standard book, which will judge us at the last day. {MS 4, 1850; 16 MR 34}

He does not tell to any all that He might reveal {DA page 568}

We do not want to hold our faith simply because it was handed how to us by our fathers. Such a faith will not stand the terrible test that is before us. – {R&H 4-29-84}

None but those who have a fortified mind with the truths if the Bible will stand thotugh the last great conflict. To every soul will come the searching test: Shall I obey God rather than men? The decisive hour is even now at hand. Are our feet planted in the rock of God’s immutable word? Are we prepared to stand in firm defense of the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus? – {Great Controversy, p.593}.

There is no excuse for anyone in taking the position that there is no more truth to be revealed, and that all our expositions of scripture are without an error. The fact that certain doctrines have been held as truth for many years by our people, is not a proof that our ideas are infallible. Age will not make error into a truth and truth can afford to be fair. No true doctrine will lose anything by close investigation. – {RH, Dec 20, 1892 –CW 35.2}

When God’s word is studied, comprehended, and obeyed, a bright light will be reflected to the world; new truths, received and acted upon, will bind us in strong bonds to Jesus. The Bible, and the Bible alone, is to be our creed, the sole bond of union; all who bow to this holy word will be in harmony. Our own views and ideas must not control our efforts. Man is fallible, but God’s word in infalliable.” Christina, Norway {RH, December 15, 1885 par,16}

But don’t you quote Sister White. I don’t want you ever to quote Sister White until you get your vantage ground where you know where you are. Quote the Bible. Talk the Bible. It is full of meat, full of fatness. Carry it right out in your life, and you will know more Bible than you know now.” {Spalding and Magan Collection, p174}

The question has been asked me, “Do you think that the Lord has any more light for us as a people?” I answer that He has light that is new to us, and yet it is precious old light that is to shine forth from the Word of truth. We have only the glimmerings of the rays of the light that is yet to come to us. We are not making the most of the light which the Lord has already given us, and thus we fail to receive the increased light; we do not walk in light already shed upon us.  We call ourselves commandment-keeping people, but we do not comprehend the exceeding breadth of the far-reaching principles of the law of God; we do not understand its sacred character. Many who claim to be teachers of the truth, have no real conception of what they are doing in teaching the law of God, because they do not have a living knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ. {RH, June 3, 1890 par. 2}

The Bible has accumulated and bound up together its treasures for this last generation. {Selected Messages, Vol 3, p.339}

I saw that God had children, who do not see and keep the Sabbath. They had not rejected the light on it. And at thecommencement of the time of trouble, we were filled with the Holy Ghost as we went forth [Hosea 6:2, 3.] and proclaimed the Sabbath more fully. This enraged the church, and nominal Adventists, as they could not refute the Sabbath truth. And at this time, God’s chosen, all saw clearly that we had the truth, and they came out and endured the persecution with us. {Word to the Little Flock 18.4}
The Test of New LightOur brethren should be willing to investigate in a candid way every point of controversy. If abrother is teaching error, those who are in responsible positions ought to know it; and if he is teaching truth, they ought to take their stand at his side. We should all know what is being taught among us; for if it is truth, we need it. We are all under obligation to God to know what He sends us. He has given directions by which we may test every doctrine,—“To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.” If the light presented meets this test, we are not to refuse to accept it because it does not agree with our ideas.

Examination of New Views—Truth is eternal, and conflict with error will only make manifest its strength. We should never refuse to examine the Scriptures with those who, we have reason to believe, desire to know what is truth as much as we do. Suppose a brother held a view that differed from yours, and he should come to you, proposing that you sit down with him and make an investigation of that point in the Scriptures; should you rise up, filled with prejudice, and condemn his ideas, while refusing to give him a candid hearing?

The only right way would be to sit down as Christians and investigate the position presented, in the light of God’s word, which will reveal truth and unmask error. To ridicule his ideas would not weaken his position in the least if it were false, or strengthen your position if it were true. If the pillars of our faith will not stand the test of investigation, it is time that we knew it. There must be no spirit of pharisaism cherished among us. When Christ came to His own, His own received Him not; and it is a matter of solemn interest to us that we should not pursue a similar course in refusing light from heaven.

We must study the truth for ourselves. No living man should be relied upon to think for us. No matter who it is, or in what position he may be placed, we are not to look upon any man as a perfect criterion for us. We are to counsel together, and to be subject to one another; but at the same time we are to exercise the ability God has given us to learn what is truth. Each one of us must look to God for divine enlightenment. We must individually develop a character that will stand the test in the day of God. We must not become set in our ideas, and think that no one should interfere with our opinions.—The Review and Herald, June 18, 1889  (GW 300.4}

No one should claim that he has all the light there is for God’s people. The Lord will not tolerate this. He has said, “I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it.” [Revelation 3:8.] Even if all our leading men should refuse light and truth, that door will still remain open. The Lord will raise up men who will give the people the message for this time. {TM 107.1}

Christians should be preparing for what is soon to break upon the world as an overwhelming surprise, and this preparation they should make by diligently studying the word of God, and striving to conform their lives to its precepts…. God calls for a revival and a reformation.—Prophets and Kings, 626.

The truth of God is progressive; it is always onwardgoing from strength to a greater strengthfrom light to a greater light. We have every reason to believe that the Lord will send us increased truthfor a great work is yet to be done. In our knowledge of truth, there is first a beginning in our understanding of it, then a progression, then completion; first the blade, then the ear, and after that the full corn in the ear. Much has been lost because our ministers and people have concluded that we have had all the truth essential for us as a peoplebut such a conclusion is erroneous and in harmony with the deceptions of Satanfor truth will be constantly unfolding. {ST, May 26, 1890 par. 2}

Thus the message of the third angel will be proclaimed. As the time comes for it to be given with greatest powerthe Lord will work through humble instruments, leading the minds of those who consecrate themselves to His service. The laborers will be qualified rather by the unction of His Spirit than by the training of literary institutions[This means the “truth of God is progressive” message mentioned in the above quote will NOT come from the universities of the SDA church, but from humble SDA church members who have grown further in their faith and have the desire to share this good news] . . . But since many refuse to be satisfied with the mere authority of men and demand a plain Thus saith the Lord,” the popular ministry, like the Pharisees of old, filled with anger as their authority is questioned, will denounce the message as of Satan and stir up the sin-loving multitudes to revile and persecute those who proclaim it{GC 606.2}

The Month in the Bible and how the Sabbath is linked to it.

When is the Sabbath Day? Saturday? Sunday? Some other day? Presented here are items which are found in scripture which show where the Sabbath day is located. Some may wonder why I am looking at this as it should be common knowledge?

The reason is that many just assume that the Sabbath day is what they have been taught. But have you ever taken the time to investigate it for yourself, by viewing the text in the Bible? Did you know that the month in the Bible is not based upon the same month you and I use today?

The month presented in the Bible is not a Gregorian month (the calendar system we use). It is a month based upon the moon and  the cycles it goes through (in fact the word month comes from the word moon).  Most people however have never heard of this.

They understand the Gregorian Calendar (the current calendar we are all using) as was this calendar they have grown up with. When you view this calendar, you realise just how complex a calendar it actually is. It has varying days in different months which need to be learnt which changes anywhere form 28 days to 31 days.

I have heard many people say:  “God would not provide with a calendar which is confusing”. Yes I agree. This is exactly what the Gregorian calendar system is however. We all understand the Gregorian calendar as we have grown up with it. However the calendar presented in the Bible is even simpler than the Gregorian calendar. You do not need to memorise different month lengths as it is all tied to the cycle of the moon. But why would God provide us with a Calendar which was tied to the moon?

We all know the beauty of this world. We understand that God created all things. Some of the items he has created are extremely complex –  beyond our present understanding – whilst others are simple. It is seen that God thought of this as well when he was looking at how we would calculate time.

He wanted a system that no matter where in the world you were living, or what time in history you were living in, the Calendar would be able to be worked out.  God’s calendar continues to this day from the day it was set up in Genesis. The moon allows anyone to work out where the Sabbath days are and it doesn’t matter when you were born or where you live.

Using a Calendar based upon the moon also prevents us from worshipping on different days. You see we currently use the international date line – an imaginary line which goes from the top of the world to the bottom – which divides one Gregorian calendar day from another.

If we were on the exact opposite side of the globe from where this timeline is, and we both had Sabbath on the same time using the Gregorian Calendar and then one headed east and the other headed west, by the time we reached the other side of the globe, one person would be having his Sabbath one day ahead of the other, even though they were side by side, just separated by an imaginary time line. The interesting thing is,  if you are using Gods calendar which uses the Moon to dictate the months, this does not occur. Both people would end up worshipping at the exact same time as they met again on the other side of the world.

So if the Bible used  months based upon the moon to work out his Sabbaths, why are we not using it today? Surely someone would have noticed this and corrected it?

Personally I believe the reason for this is two fold. The Bible was written when they were using the Lunar cycle to work out when the Sabbath days were. It was common knowledge then. However it was forgotten. Yes, The Bible tells us in Lamentations 2:6

“He has done violence to His tabernacle,
As if it were a garden;
He has destroyed His place of assembly;
The Lord has caused
The appointed feasts and Sabbaths to be forgotten in Zion.
In His burning indignation He has spurned the king and the priest.”

The second reason is that in Daniel 7:25 it talks about the Beast.  It says

“He shall speak pompous words against the Most High,
Shall persecute the saints of the Most High,
And shall intend to change times and law.
Then the saints shall be given into his hand
For a time and times and half a time.”

Which indicates that time will be changed. It appears when one views the Bible and compares it to the Calendar system we are using today, that this has already occurred and may occur again.

So how can one find out when the Sabbath day is? Should we use History? My view is no. History is littered with errors and opinions and as such it cannot be viewed with any accuracy.

The only accurate way I can see to work this out is from the Bible itself – the source. By looking at the word used for Sabbath in the Bible and see what days it appears upon. This seems like the simplest and fairest way to do it.

When the Bible refers to the month, it literally refers to the count from the last new moon. When it talks of the week, it talks about the day of the week, which is different to the day of the month which I will also show below.

How was the month structured in the Bible?

The Biblical month is different to our Gregorian month. The Biblical month goes from the first sighting of the new moon to the next. The Bible presents the days of the month starting at day 1 which is known as new moon day in the Bible. It then starts the weekly cycle at day 2 (proof of this is provided later).

It then goes through from day 2 to the Sabbath day on day 8 (7 days). Then it cycles again from day 9 through to the Sabbath on day 15 (7 days), day 16 through to the Sabbath on day 22 (7 days) and the final week which goes from day 23 through to the Sabbath day on day 29 (7 days). Depending upon the month, there may be a single day remaining. This is because the Lunar Cycle is approximately 29.5 day long.

In Isaiah 66:23 we find the following:

“And it shall come to pass
That from one New Moon to another,
And from one Sabbath to another,
All flesh shall come to worship before Me,” says the Lord.”

It is interesting to note that in scripture there is only one Sabbath day per year which appears on New moon day. This occurs in the seventh month. In the current Gregorian Calendar, the Sabbath appears on New Moon day at least twice per year and this more than likely does not include the seventh month. This is further reflected in Ezekiel 46:1

‘Thus says the Lord God: “The gateway of the inner court that faces toward the east shall be shut the six working days; but on the Sabbath it shall be opened, and on the day of the New Moon it shall be opened.”

It never mentions that the Sabbath and the New moon Days overlap.

Where are the examples in scripture which show where the Sabbath day is located?

The following example is done over a two month period and is straight from the Bible.

1. The Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread.

This is the first month of the year as presented in Exodus when Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt.

Exodus 12:1-2
1 Now the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying, 2 “This month shall be your beginning of months; it shall be the first month of the year to you.”

Exodus 12:3
3 Speak to all the congregation of Israel, saying: ‘On the tenth of this month every man shall take for himself a lamb, according to the house of his father, a lamb for a household.

Exodus 12:6-7
6 Now you shall keep it until the fourteenth day of the same month. Then the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it at twilight. 7 And they shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and on the lintel of the houses where they eat it.

This is the evening of the Passover. What is the Passover?

Exodus 12:12-13
12 ‘For I will pass through the land of Egypt on that night, and will strike all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the Lord. 13 Now the blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you; and the plague shall not be on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt.

The Passover was the evening where the Lord past over those who had marked their homes. Leviticus 23 then goes on to talk about the Feast of Unleavened Bread.

Leviticus 23:6-8
6 And on the fifteenth day of the same month isthe Feast of Unleavened Bread to the Lord; seven days you must eat unleavened bread. 7 On the first day you shall have a holy convocation; you shall do no customary work on it. 8 But you shall offer an offering made by fire to theLord for seven days. The seventh day shall be a holy convocation; you shall do no customary work on it.’”

Exodus 12:18 says
18 In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month at evening, you shall eat unleavened bread, until the twenty-first day of the month at evening.

So we know that the 15th day was a holy convocation and the seventh day after that was a holy convocation, which was the 21st day. This is just before the 22nd day which would be a sabbath day if the 15th day was a Sabbath day.

So can we show that the 16th day was the first day of the week then?

Mark 16:1-2

1 Now when the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices, that they might come and anoint Him. Very early in the morning, on the first day of the week, they came to the tomb when the sun had risen.

Luke 24:1-2

Now on the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they, and certain other women with them, came to the tomb bringing the spices which they had prepared. But they found the stone rolled away from the tomb.

John 20:1

Now on the  first day of the week Mary Magdalene went to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb.

Here are three different verses which all show the first day of the week was the day after the 15th.

Month 1
Day 1 (New Moon Day)
Day 2, Day 3, Day 4, Day 5, Day 6, Day 7, Day 8 (Sabbath)
Day 9, Day 10, Day 11, Day 12, Day 13, Day 14 (Passover), Day 15 (Sabbath – Unleavened Bread)
Day 16 (UB), Day 17 (UB), Day 18 (UB), Day 19 (UB), Day 20 (UB), Day 21 (UB), Day 22 (Sabbath),
Day 23, Day 24, Day 25, Day 26, Day 27, Day 28, Day 29 (Sabbath),
Day 30

Something I wondered was how did they travel if this was not to be done on the Sabbath.

Numbers 33:3 says
3 They departed from Rameses in the first month, on the fifteenth day of the first month; on the day after the Passover the children of Israel went out with boldness in the sight of all the Egyptians.

Deuteronomy 16:1 says
1 Observe the month of Abib, and keep the Passover to the Lord your God, for in the month of Abib the Lord your God brought you out of Egypt by night.

So they came out of Egypt by night. But what other evidence do we have that the 14th day was the sixth day of the week?

In John 19:14 it says:
Now it was the Preparation Day of the Passover, and about the sixth hour. And he said to the Jews, “Behold your King!”

So Preparation day was the day of Passover.

In John 19:31 it says:
31 Therefore, because it was the Preparation Day, that the bodies should not remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a high day), the Jews asked Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.

So here we also see that the day after Passover (the 15th of the month) was a Sabbath day. The Sabbath day is the seventh day of the week, making passover the 6th day of the week. It is interesting to note that this Sabbath is what is called a High Sabbath. These Sabbaths are ones which start a Feast.

How can we see from one month to another through the Bible though?

The following shows how we know that the weeks started on the second day of the month. To do this we will look at what the disciples of Jesus did when the travelled from Philippi to Troas.

Acts 20:6-7
6 But we sailed away from Philippi after the Days of Unleavened Bread, and in five days joined them at Troas, where we stayed seven days. 7 Now on the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul, ready to depart the next day, spoke to them and continued his message until midnight.

So we already know that the bays of unleavened bread ended upon the 21st day of the month as we have seen above. If they travelled for five days this takes them from the 22nd day up to the 26th day. i.e. 22nd, 23rd, 24th, 25th, 26th (five days).

Then it says they stayed seven days, which bought them to the first day of the week.  i.e. 26th, 27th, 28th, 29th(Sabbath), 30th(Translation day), 1st (New Moon Day), 2nd – Which is the first day of the week and brings us to the second month.

During the second month The children of Israel complained that they were hungry.

Exodus 16:3 says
And the children of Israel said to them, “Oh, that we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the pots of meat and when we ate bread to the full! For you have brought us out into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger.”

It was the fifteenth day when they complained:

Exodus 16:1
1 And they journeyed from Elim, and all the congregation of the children of Israel came to the Wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after they departed from the land of Egypt. 2 Then the whole congregation of the children of Israel complained against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness.

On the evening of the fifteenth, God sent quail to them after the sacred hours were over.

Exodus 16:12
12 “I have heard the complaints of the children of Israel. Speak to them, saying, ‘At twilight you shall eat meat, and in the morning you shall be filled with bread. And you shall know that Iam the Lord your God.’” 13 So it was that quails came up at evening and covered the camp, and in the morning the dew lay all around the camp.

And on the morning of the sixteenth day he provided them with Manna.

Exodus 16:14-15
14 And when the layer of dew lifted, there, on the surface of the wilderness, was a small round substance,
asfine as frost on the ground. 15 So when the children of Israel saw it, they said to one another, “What is it?” For they did not know what it was. And Moses said to them, “This is the bread which the Lord has given you to eat.

And the people were provided with manna for six days and on the sixth day they were provided with twice as much so it would last them through the Sabbath day as there was to be no work done on the Sabbath day.

Exodus 16:22-30
22 And so it was, on the sixth day, that they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for each one. And all the rulers of the congregation came and told Moses. 23 Then he said to them, “This is what the Lord has said: ‘Tomorrow is a Sabbath rest, a holy Sabbath to the Lord.

27 Now it happened that some of the people went out on the seventh day to gather, but they found none. 28 And theLord said to Moses, “How long do you refuse to keep My commandments and My laws? 29 See! For the Lord has given you the Sabbath; therefore He gives you on the sixth day bread for two days. Let every man remain in his place; let no man go out of his place on the seventh day.” 30 So the people rested on the seventh day.

So from the information above we can see for two months in a row that God provided the Sabbath days on the 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th days of the month.

Forty years after the heavenly manna had been sent by God to feed the Israelites during their time in the wilderness, it ceased. Moses had now died and Israel was now under the new leadership of Joshua. On the sixteenth day of the first month, (day one of the second week) the Manna forever ceased.

In Joshua 5:10-12 it says
10 Now the children of Israel camped in Gilgal, and kept the Passover on the fourteenth day of the month at twilight on the plains of Jericho. 11 And they ate of the produce of the land on the day after the Passover, unleavened bread and parched grain, on the very same day. 12 Then the manna ceased on the day after they had eaten the produce of the land; and the children of Israel no longer had manna, but they ate the food of the land of Canaan that year.

The Passover was on the 14th day. The Sabbath of unleavened bread started on the 15th day and they ate of the land on this day. The manna then ceased on the day after they had eaten of the land. The 16th day.

What about the Hebrew and Greek words used which are translated to “Sabbath”?

I mention this as some people seem to think that the feasts and the Sabbaths were not held upon the same day. To check this we need to find out what words were used in the Bible for the Sabbath day and for the Feast days.

The ten commandments would seem the best place to get the original word for Sabbath so we can ensure we are looking for the correct day in scripture.

In Exodus 20:8-10, it says:

“Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: 10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in itthou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates.”

Sabbath here is the original word “shabbath” (Strong’s H7676)

In Deuteronomy 5:14 it says:

“But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in itthou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, nor thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thine ox, nor thine ass, nor any of thy cattle, nor thy stranger thatis within thy gates; that thy manservant and thy maidservant may rest as well as thou.”

Sabbath here is the original word “shabbath” (Strong’s H7676). So far I can see that the word used for Sabbath is “Shabbath”.

In Isaiah 28:10 it says:

“For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept, Line upon line, line upon line, Here a little, there a little.”

So I have my first precept. The word used for the Sabbath day is in scripture was “Shabbath”. The other word used for many of the feasts is Shabbathown (Strongs word H7677).

From what is written in scripture however – the word Shabbathown is inclusive of the Sabbath, not exclusive as others might suggest. If the word Shabbathown was is to be used to indicate it was an exclusive date from the Sabbath, one would expect this to be indicated in scripture.

So where is it used then?  In each section below, you will find it talking about the Sabbath and it uses the word Shabbath. Importantly it also uses the words “of rest” which is the word “Shabbathown”.

In Exodus 16:23, when talking about the Manna which fell from heaven it says,

Then he said to them, “This is what the Lord has said: ‘Tomorrow is a Sabbath rest, a holy Sabbath to the Lord. Bake what you will bake today, and boil what you will boil; and lay up for yourselves all that remains, to be kept until morning.’”

The word “rest” is translated as Shabbathown. The word “Sabbath” is translated as Shabbath. This shows that the words are inclusive, not exclusive (otherwise the words could not be used for the same day). Some other examples of other places where both of these words are used together are:

Exodus 31:15. Here in verses 12 – 17 it talks about the Sabbath Law.

Screen Shot 2014-03-15 at 10.21.12 pm

Exodus 35:2 uses it. Here it is talking of the Sabbath Regulations

Screen Shot 2014-03-15 at 10.23.11 pm

Leviticus 16:31 uses it. Here they are talking about the Day of Atonement.

Screen Shot 2014-03-15 at 10.24.23 pm

Leviticus 23:3. Here it is just talking of the Sabbath day.

Screen Shot 2014-03-15 at 10.25.29 pm

Leviticus 23:32 uses it. Here it is talking about the Day of Atonement.

Screen Shot 2014-03-15 at 10.26.36 pm

Leviticus 25:4 uses it. Here it is talking about the Sabbath of the seventh year.

Screen Shot 2014-03-15 at 10.27.24 pm

These all indicate the word Shabbathown is inclusive of the word Shabbath. The interesting thing is that the Bible also uses the Greek word for Sabbath in the New Testament. Here it only uses the word “Sabbaton” This word is used to cover both “High Sabbaths” and normal Sabbaths. e.g

Luke 23:54 – a High Sabbath
Screen Shot 2014-03-15 at 10.32.02 pm

Luke 6:9 – a normal Sabbath
Screen Shot 2014-03-15 at 10.33.47 pm

Here a single word represents both types of days indicating the inclusive nature of the Sabbath day.

Where else are the Sabbaths found?
Seventh Month – Feast of Tabernacles

Leviticus 23:33-36
33 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 34 “Speak to the children of Israel, saying: ‘The fifteenth day of this seventh month shall be the Feast of Tabernacles for seven days to the Lord. 35 On the first day there shall be a holy convocation. You shall do no customary work on it. 36 For seven days you shall offer an offering made by fire to the Lord. On the eighth day you shall have a holy convocation, and you shall offer an offering made by fire to the Lord. It is a sacred assembly, and you shall do no customary work on it.

15th Sabbath (Holy Convocation)

16,17,18,19,20,21 (7 days total – ends on 21st day) 22nd (Sabbath – 8th day – Holy convocation)

John 7:2
2 Now the Jews’ Feast of Tabernacles was at hand.

John 7:37-38
37 On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying,“If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. 38 He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”

John 8:2
2 Now early in the morning He came again into the temple, and all the people came to Him; and He sat down and taught them.

This was the day after the the feast. The 22nd day – The Sabbath. How do I know this? Keep reading….

John 8:58-59
58 Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.” 59 Then they took up stones to throw at Him; but Jesus hid Himself and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.

John 9:1
Now as Jesus passed by, He saw a man who was blind from birth.

John 9:6-7
6 When He had said these things, He spat on the ground and made clay with the saliva; and He anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay. 7 And He said to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which is translated, Sent). So he went and washed, and came back seeing.

John 9:14
14 Now it was a Sabbath when Jesus made the clay and opened his eyes.

The last day of the feast of Tabernacles is not the 22nd day. It is the 21st day.  Count to 7 from the 15th day. 15 (1), 16 (2), 17 (3), 18 (4), 19 (5), 20 (6), 21 (7). The 21st day is the last day if the Feast of Tabernacles. Not the 22nd day. The 22nd day is the Sabbath which matches exactly with what we find elsewhere in the Bible.

John 19:31
Therefore, because it was the Preparation Day, that the bodies should not remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a high day), the Jews asked Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away

Here the Bible is also showing that High days also occurred on the Sabbath, which also fits everything we have learnt thus far. The preparation day was the day before the Sabbath.

Could a continuous 7 day Sabbath cycle even work?

On the face of it, when talking about a continuous seven day cycle, it appears that it would work just fine. That is until you consider what would have happened to Noah’s family after the flood and realise that the weekly cycle is tied purely to the sun. What do I mean?

Noah had three sons which are listed in the Bible. Shem, Ham and Japeth. Each of these had descendants. In Genesis 5:32 it says

And Noah was five hundred years old: and Noah begat Shem, Ham, and Japheth

If we were to suppose for a moment, that the repeating 7 day cycle is correct and the method of timekeeping using the moon is wrong, let us see how it effects they when they travelled. We will not even assume they are using a Gregorian Calendar. Just a repeating seven day cycle.

If a tribe of seventh day sabbath keeping Shemites moved from Ararat to the east (towards the rising sun) eventually they would come to a point half way around the world. Being seventh day Sabbath keepers they would keep track f the time. Let us say that for this example they had kept a continuous 7 day weekly cycle as the world does today.

Due to the rotation of the earth and the fact that they moved towards the rising sun, once they reach the halfway point of the earth, they would be 12 hours ahead of the point they were at Ararat.

Now consider that a tribe of seventh day keeping Japhatites which headed west (towards the setting sun). Being Sabbath keepers they would have also kept a careful track of time. Let us also say that this tribe also used continuous cycling weeks.

A few years later upon reaching the same point occupied by the Shemites, who moved east, the tribe of Japhatites who moved west would be 12 hours behind. The two tribes would discover that they are a full 24 hours apart. This is not a result of them not keeping track of time, but rather a function that when one group travels east they travel ahead of the daylight and the group travelling west travels backwards into the night. The same thing is noted in the story “80 days around the world” by Jules Verne.

The situation becomes even worse if they were to keep travelling east and west as by the time they reached their starting point again they would be out by not 24 hours, but 48 hours! This calendar system goes straight into todays calendar and shows it is based purely upon the sun, even the weeks.

According to the Calendar system we are using today to work out the Sabbaths, both should be correct, which is not possible when using it.

However if they were using the time provided in the Bible to base their months upon, as they came closer together there Sabbath days would also come closer together until they arrived at the same point where there Sabbaths would be upon the same day! Why? Beacause the moon regulates the the months depending upon where you are located on the earth.

Yes this example is made up. However if you believe the Bible, this has in fact occurred. People travel in all directions. How has man attempted to overcome this? Adding a man made international date line.

This video explains this topic very well.

Conclusion

The choice on the day which you hold to be the Sabbath is up to you. I have just shown you information which I have found in the Bible.

I have given you a perfectly good example of the problem people have with a seven day cycle tied purely to the sun.

Each person should study the subject themselves and come to their own belief. Some of the items which will be hard form people to come to grips with may be:

  1. Am I worshipping the Lord on the wrong day?
  2. If I am worshipping the Lord on the wrong day, how can I change given this world is focussed upon a continuous 7 day cycle?

These questions are definitely demanding ones. It’s up to you to decide on each. No one can make your mind up for you. If you come to the same conclusion I did about the Sabbath day however and then deny it, you will need to consider what you are doing to the fourth commandment.

The choice is yours.

Historical Evidence

2:36

Yes. They keep a separate Calendar, which has been changed according to them

4:05

No argument that the order of the days was not adjusted. However the question should be raised why we are looking at the history of the Calendar using Mans methods. If the information in the Bible is correct and this is based upon a different Calendar which uses the Moon as its monthly cycles, why do we need to look through the history of the Calendar.

Is not our Lord a God of perfection. If he is, then I should be able to go out and find God’s time at any point in time. Whether I was born in the year 200 AD or 1300 AD or today. The assumption this video presents is that anyone is able to tell by looking at a man made timeline, when the Sabbath is. This is not what God provided us with his monthly cycles for. They were so we can work out his Sabbath days, his feast days etc, no matter when we were born, and no matter where in the world we live.

4:31

You are forgetting that before the Julian Calendar, there was the Roman Calendar. Rome changed the times and laws.

Daniel 7:25

He shall speak pompous words against the Most High,

Shall persecute the saints of the Most High,

And shall intend to change times and law.

10:08

You can’t really trust what you are seeing unless you check it out for yourself. – Good point. My view is that you should not reply on anything but the Bible. It is interesting that you have found texts pointing in both directions.

in 1 Corinthians 14:33 it says: For God is not the author of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints.

The words you are reading were designed to confuse. To point you in two directions such that you know not what is the truth. You need to use the Bible as your guide and then you will know what the truth is and what is a lie.

13:39

If you view the Sabbaths as I do from the Bible, you then can see how the Jews adopted the 7 day cycle from the Pagans, and therefore changed their cycle from being based upon the moon with na new moon day to being based solely upon a seven day cycle alone.

14:37

The origin of the Sabbath is obscure. – If this is the case, how can you use a historical method to determine the Sabbath days? Better to use the method God provides is with in the Bible.

16:34

It is a good question how we can trust the what is written by the Jews regarding the Sabbaths and how it was changed over history. One should point out at the same time however, if you are going to reject the information provided here on how the Sabbath was originally constructed, one should also reject the premise that Saturday is definitely the Sabbath day as they are both subject to the exact same issues of truth. The Bible needs to be used to work this out.

It is not that it is blatantly lying. Rather that your foundation upon which you are basing your Sabbaths upon have not been solidified. For the Jewish people are presenting two days, which would be expected if you believe Satan works in this world. A Lunar method (The calendar provided in the Bible) and a Gregorian calendar method (A man made calendar).

19:02

You should point out the word “seems”. I notice you skip it twice. Here you are not following your own rules and as such you cannot rely on this information.

22:52

Beleiving that the Jews never faulted is wrong.

Lamentations 2:5

5 The Lord was like an enemy.

He has swallowed up Israel,
He has swallowed up all her palaces;
He has destroyed her strongholds,
And has increased mourning and lamentation
In the daughter of Judah.

6 He has done violence to His tabernacle,
As if it were a garden;
He has destroyed His place of assembly;
The Lord has caused
The appointed feasts and Sabbaths to be forgotten in Zion.
In His burning indignation He has spurned the king and the priest.

It is clear from this verse that Gods people were not always following what he asked. It should be noted that The Lord has caused The appointed feasts and Sabbaths to be forgotten in Zion.

23:07

Wow. This just highlights the problems between the Lunar Solar Calendar provided in the Bible and the Man made Gregorian Calendar.

24:01

This might explain why the Calendar used by the Jews today says the year about to become 5775 (http://www.chabad.org/calendar/view/month.htm) which differs from the Calendar provided here (http://torahcalendar.com/Calendar.asp?YM=Y2063M12) which says we are about to start the year 6000.

26:58 See above.

28:12 Yes. This just highlights how we cannot put any faith in what the Jews hold as their day of Sabbath today. We need to go back to the Bible to work this out.

28:35 – Just a note. You are using the website “Crystalinks.com” which states it is a metaphysics and Science Website in its title. I cannot see how we can place any faith in this site at all. Let’s get back to scripture and make our decisions from there.

31:12 – I feel I am wasting my time looking at Calendars which were not provided in the Bible.

36:59 Are alarm bells ringing? Saturns day – Saturday. A name based upon a planet. Are we worshipping on day guided by a planetary name? That sounds a lot like idol worshipping to me.

37:45 – Can one seriously believe that man did not change the Sabbath day? Here we are using a man made calendar and we are studying it intently, but we are ignoring what the Bible says and how it presents the month and the weeks.

39:31 – Sounds to me like God had seen enough of worship on the wrong day and he was bringing and end to it.

40:59 – This sounds similar to what is written in Lamentations 2:5. I know they may not be the same events, but it shows what God did when they did not follow his way.

41:20 So they dedicated the day of Saturn. Again. Doesn’t this ring alarm bells? The article itself is all about how the Jews do not hold any idols, and in the next breath they say that they hold the day of Saturn (an idol no matter how you view it) as the Lords day, a day which is not written anywhere in Scripture and for good reason as the Lord did not want us to follow a Planetary day to worship him upon. Rather the seventh day of the week based upon the Lunar cycle of New moon day, and then 7 days x 4 weeks.

44:21

You need to remember, if your original assumption is wrong, everything else which follows will be wrong as well. Here you are assuming that the timeline had an unbroken seven day sabbath cycle, which is being reinforced in your mind by the errors which follow throughout history.

If the Bible says that there was New Moon Day and Sabbaths, and that these will continue if the New Heaven and Earth (Gods Calendar), then how can one put any faith in the Gregorian Calendar (Man made Calendar) which we are using today?

God is a perfect God. Man is an imperfect being due to sin. Which Calendar do you think it would be best to follow? Whether you like it or not, by basing your Sabbaths upon Saturns Day, you are using the Gregorian Calendar, a mans made Calendar which reeks of error.

45:24

You cannot prove beyond any shadow of a doubt that the Biblical Sabbath is the same as Saturns Day. In fact by using the Calendar provided by God, Saturns day is disproved as being the regular day to hold God’s Sabbaths upon.

47:32

What would one expect to find if the Bible says that many will be deceived? Go back to the Bible and get your information from there.

You simply have a list of men saying that the Sabbath day was the same day as the day of Saturn. These same men are saying that there is no New Moon day as well. But the Bible clearly states this exists. You decide who you want to follow/ The Bible or Man. God or Satan.

51:15 Are you seriously going to sit here and talk about the Bible and God in one breath, and then talk about the planets and how the Sabbath just so happened to fall on the same day as Saturns day in the other breath? Don’t you see that you are talking here about two different things? One is Biblical. The other is not.

51:47 There is ABSOLUTELY NO evidence of this. The Bible does not show a weekly seven day cycle between months. Please show me exactly where this is shown and I will show you the exact opposite.

52:18 Please show me the text which shows this continual weekly cycle.

58:10 Various reasons? Seriously. Are you saying that God said that they could delay of Tishri 1? When to? A day which falls outside the New Moon which was provided by God to start the new months? Seriously? I cannot believe Alarm bells are not going off in your head when you view this stuff. It has NO scriptural evidence to support it. Where in the Bible does it talk about weekdays we use in the Gregorian Calendar? It is one false assumption based upon another based upon another. Go back the the Bible and take your days from there, then you will know the truth.

58:38 Please show me anywhere in Leviticus 23 that the feasts could fall on any day of the week. The weekly cycle provided on Gods Calendar ensured the day always fell on the exact same day of the week.

59:55 Invented much later?? Please explain then why they followed it with Moses and also during the time Jesus was with us on this earth?

So I stopped commenting from here. This video needs to go back the the scripture and base its decision there. Now I understand that the views of the presenter are that the Sabbath floats. My view is that it does not float. For it it floated, how can the author of this video guarantee that the Sabbath is being held upon the correct day?

The only way to do this over time is to use the Biblical calendar, which is based upon the New Moon and the Weekly cycle starting after the New moon day, the second day of the month.

A look at revelation1412.org’s Sabbath day presentations – Video 2

The following items are my belief. They do not need to be yours. Study the topic yourself and come to your own conclusion.

The videos I am talking about here can be found in this location: http://revelation1412.org/literature/lunar-sabbaths/lunar-sabbaths-video-series-lynnford/

8th, 15th, 22nd, 29th days of the months.

Exodus 16:1

And they journeyed from Elim, and all the congregation of the children of Israel came to the Wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after they departed from the land of Egypt.

  • Suggestion is that is unlikely to be a Sabbath day as they had to do a great deal of work to set up. Again. This is an assumption that they spent the entire day setting up. It is very unlikely that they did this as it was the Sabbath. So either way, you are not provided with this information so you cannot assume.
  • If it was not the Sabbath day, why then did naan then fall for 6  days with a double helping on the sixth day.

Exodus 16

4 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you. And the people shall go out and gather a certain quota every day, that I may test them, whether they will walk in My law or not. 5 And it shall be on the sixth day that they shall prepare what they bring in, and it shall be twice as much as they gather daily.”

27 Now it happened that some of the people went out on the seventh day to gather, but they found none. 28 And the Lord said to Moses, “How long do you refuse to keep My commandments and My laws? 29 See! For theLord has given you the Sabbath; therefore He gives you on the sixth day bread for two days. Let every man remain in his place; let no man go out of his place on the seventh day.” 30 So the people rested on the seventh day.

The Sabbath day mentioned in Exodus 16:23, 25, 26 and 29 is a Shabbath day. You will also find the word Shabbathown used in the same section in Exodus 16:23. In particular:

“This is what the Lord has said: ‘Tomorrow is a Sabbath rest

The words “Sabbath Rest” is translated as Shabbathown. As you point out. You cannot possibly have the Shabbath and Shabbathown on the same day. But here it occurs. They have to be the same item.

__

Number 10:11-12

11 Now it came to pass on the twentieth day of the second month, in the second year, that the cloud was taken up from above the tabernacle of the Testimony. 12 And the children of Israel set out from the Wilderness of Sinai on their journeys; then the cloud settled down in the Wilderness of Paran.

33 So they departed from the mountain of the Lord on a journey of three days; and the ark of the covenant of the Lord went before them for the three days’ journey, to search out a resting place for them.

There is nothing wrong here. The verse says it was a journey of three days. Yes. That ends up on a Sabbath day if you count it from the 20th day.

———

This video proposes that the Sabbath and Shabbathown days are mutually exclusive. Why then are the same two word found in the following verses talking about the same day?

Exodus 16:23

Exodus 31:15

Exodus 35:2

Leviticus 16:31

Leviticus 23:3

Leviticus 23:32

Leviticus 25:4

If they were mutually exclusive, the Bible would talk about them seperatley. The answer is simple. Some Sabbaths were Shabbathown days, where the rules were different. A Shabbathown day is a type of Shabbath day.

————

Joshua 3:2-3

2 So it was, after three days, that the officers went through the camp; 3 and they commanded the people, saying, “When you see the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God, and the priests, the Levites, bearing it, then you shall set out from your place and go after it.

What does it mean by saying after three days and is it related to the 10th day in Joshua 4:19?

They arrived at the Jordan River on the 5th day of the week. Three days takes them through to the Sabbath – The 8th day. After these three days (which places you on day nine) the officers go through the camp telling everyone to prepare. They then left on the tenth morning and arrive the afternoon of the tenth day.

————

Pentecost

No. The first day of the month is not a week day. Neither is the last day of the month.

7 Weeks x 7 Days.

Wave Sheaf.

  • This was done the day after the Sabbath
  • Leviticus 23:11 – He shall wave the sheaf before theLord, to be accepted on your behalf; on the day after the Sabbath the priest shall wave it.
  • Sabbath was the 8th day if the week. This occurs on the 9th day.

—————

Numbers 33:3-4

3 They departed from Rameses in the first month, on the fifteenth day of the first month; on the day after the Passover the children of Israel went out with boldness in the sight of all the Egyptians.

  • Yes. They left that evening.

Joshua 5:10-11

10 Now the children of Israel camped in Gilgal, and kept the Passover on the fourteenth day of the month at twilight on the plains of Jericho. 11 And they ate of the produce of the land on the day after the Passover, unleavened bread and parched grain, on the very same day.

  • You indicate that they must have eaten before they gave the offering to the priest?
  • I can see why you may think this. It does not say however that they did not bring the wave sheaf to the priest on the Sabbath to be offered the day after, which is what the Bible says should happen as it goes Passover, Sabbath, Wave Sheaf.
  • You then say that the Wave sheaf was offered on the 15th day of the month, however there is an obvious problem with this as well, and in fact it seems much bigger than the one you propose.

Leviticus 23:5 says

In the fourteenth day of the first month at even is the LORD’S passover.

Leviticus 23:10-11 says

10 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye be come into the land which I give unto you, and shall reap the harvest thereof, then ye shall bring a sheaf of the firstfruits of your harvest unto the priest: 11 He shall wave the sheaf before the Lord, to be accepted on your behalf; on the day after the Sabbath the priest shall wave it.

and then in Leviticus 23:15 it says

15 ‘And you shall count for yourselves from the day after the Sabbath, from the day that you brought the sheaf of the wave offering: seven Sabbaths shall be completed.

If the Wave Sheaf was offered on the 15th as you say and as you point out the 14th is the Passover, when did the Sabbath occur as it is to occur between the Passover and the Wave Sheaf.

There can be only one answer.

14th Passover

15th Sabbath

16th Wave Sheaf

I have checked the text of Joshua 5. It does not say that the wave sheaf was offered on the 15th day of the month. It does not mention the Wave Sheaf. To get this information you need to look at Leviticus to see what would have happened.

———————

Joshua 5:12

12 Then the manna ceased on the day after they had eaten the produce of the land; and the children of Israel no longer had manna, but they ate the food of the land of Canaan that year.

Yes. I agree that the Manna stopped on the 16th day.

No where does it say that Manna fell on the 15th day of the month. Please show me where it says in the verse above that the Manna fell on the 15th day. It simply tells you when the Manna stopped falling. Scripture indicate that Manna never fell on the 15th day of the month.

1 Samuel 20:5

And David said to Jonathan, “Indeed tomorrow is the New Moon, and I should not fail to sit with the king to eat. But let me go, that I may hide in the field until the third day at evening.

1 Samuel 20:18-19

18 Then Jonathan said to David, “Tomorrow is the New Moon; and you will be missed, because your seat will be empty. 19 And when you have stayed three days, go down quickly and come to the place where you hid on the day of the deed; and remain by the stone Ezel.

1 Samuel 20:24

24 Then David hid in the field. And when the New Moon had come, the king sat down to eat the feast. 25 Now the king sat on his seat, as at other times, on a seat by the wall. And Jonathan arose, and Abner sat by Saul’s side, but David’s place was empty. 26 Nevertheless Saul did not say anything that day, for he thought, “Something has happened to him; he is unclean, surely he is unclean.”

27 And it happened the next day, the second day of the month, that David’s place was empty. And Saul said to Jonathan his son, “Why has the son of Jesse not come to eat, either yesterday or today?”

35 And so it was, in the morning, that Jonathan went out into the field at the time appointed with David, and a little lad was with him.

It is quite simple

Day 1 – New Moon – Saul easts with David and says nothing

Day 2 – Saul asks where David is.

Day 3 – David returns and Jonathan

You assume incorrectly that the 3rd day of the month and the 3rd day of the new moon are two different things. They are not. In verse 27 it talks about the New Moon so you need to count from the New Moon. The New Moon is the beginning of the Month. The word used for month here is chodesh (Strongs:H2320) which means:

  1. the new moon, month, monthly
    1. the first day of the month
    2. the lunar month

Mow’ed (Strongs:H4150) from verse 35 is correct as well.

  1. Appointed place, appointed time, meeting
    1. appointed time
      1. appointed time (general)
      2. sacred season, set feast, appointed season
    2. appointed meeting
    3. appointed place
    4. appointed sign or signal
    5. tent of meeting

Two or three days at the end of each month?

No. There can never be. The cycle is 29.5 day approximately. New moon then 4 weeks, then sometimes a single day. This equals 1+ 28 + ~1 = 29 – 30 days. If it were 2 to 3 days it would not follow the lunar cycle.

Exactly right. The New Moon days SHOULD be counted as a day of the month. However they are not days of the week. Don’t confuse them. When the Bible talks about the month it tells you. When it talks about the week it tells you this also.

There is nothing in Samuel 21 which indicates the exact time which David travelled over. It simply says “about three days since I came out” . Three? Four?. It would appear that David is not being forthcoming to the Priest. You cannot be certain as to the exact time he took to get there and you cannot be certain it was or was not a Sabbath.

I don’t see how you can use this section as proof of anything (You even suggest that they sometimes ate the shewbread on the next day depending upon the circumstances.) It is simply not clear from this text.

——————————

Regarding John Gills Exposition. If you believe this, the Sabbath day is on the ninth day of every month. I can’t see how this fits what the Bible teaches. In fact if the Sabbath were on the Ninth day of every month, what happens to the Sabbath on the months where there are only 29 days? You have a week with no Sabbath as the months in the Bible are based upon the Cycle of the Moon -> Either 29 or 30 days.

Leviticus 23:33-36

The Feast of Tabernacles.

33 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 34 “Speak to the children of Israel, saying: ‘The fifteenth day of this seventh month shall be the Feast of Tabernaclesfor seven days to the Lord.

15th Sabbath

The 22nd day – The Sabbath.

John 9

14 Now it was a Sabbath when Jesus made the clay and opened his eyes.

The last day of the feast of Tabernacles is not the 22nd day. It is the 21st day. Count to 7 from the 15th day. 15 (1), 16 (2), 17 (3), 18 (4), 19 (5), 20 (6), 21 (7). The 21st day is the last day if the Feast of Tabernacles. Not the 22nd day. The 22nd day is the Sabbath which matches exactly with what we find elsewhere in the Bible. Even the current Jewish Calendar (which has its own set of issues) doesn’t agree with you on this.

42:55

End of days of Unleavend Bread was the end of the 21st day. Not the 22nd day.

According to Leviticus 23, Passover occurs on the 14th day. The feast of Unleavend bread starts on the 15th day, a Sabbath and goes for a total of seven days which ends the feast on the 21st day.

6 But we sailed away from Philippi after the Days of Unleavened Bread, and in five days joined them at Troas, where we stayed seven days.

22nd, 23rd, 24th, 25th, 26th (5 days they arrived. They then stayed 7 days)

26th, 27th, 28th, 29th (Sabbath) 30th (Translation day) 1st (New moon day), 2nd (7 Days) – Which is the first day of the week.

It is what the Bible says. We know that the Jews thought you should perform miracles on the Sabbath as well, but Jesus did. They obviously travelled on the Sabbath. How far did they travel? Probably not to far as they weren’t to travel long distances on the Sabbath.

*****************

Luke 2:41-43

41 His parents went to Jerusalem every year at the Feast of the Passover. 42 And when He was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem according to the custom of the feast.

43 When they had finished the days, as they returned, the Boy Jesus lingered behind in Jerusalem. And Joseph and His mother did not know it;

There is nothing here which says how far they travelled on the sabbath.

49:37

You are again assuming these days are just Shabbaton days. I have already proven they are a type of Sabbath day. (A Sabbath of Rest – Rest is the word translated into Shabbaton) They are inclusive, not exclusive.

49:47

Leviticus 23:6

Feast of Unleavened bread

5 On the fourteenth day of the first month at twilight is the Lord’s Passover. 6 And on the fifteenth day of the same month is the Feast of Unleavened Bread to the Lord; seven days you must eat unleavened bread.

Exodus 12:18

18 In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month at evening, you shall eat unleavened bread, until the twenty-first day of the month at evening.

Yes. The Feast of Unleavened bread goes from the Sabbath on the 15th day though the end of the 21st day. Then there is another Sabbath on the 22nd day.

So if the Sabbath day was on the 15th the next Sabbath day had to be on the 22nd, and the one after that the 29th, and the first on the eighth.

Your argument, that they could not eat unleavened bread on the Sabbath of the 22nd is unjustified.

Let me use the year 2005 as my example using your Gregorian Calendar. Passover occurred on Friday the 22nd of April. The Sabbath of the Feast of Unleavened bread was on Saturday the 23rd, The Feast ended on Friday the 29th. And then your Sabbath day was on the 30th. I think if you are going to say that this could not be a possibility, you should check your own calendar system first to ensure it never occurs there.

Since this video denies that the Sabbath could have possibly been on the 22nd, please explain which days they were on during Exodus 12.

Numbers 28

Daily Offerings

3 “And you shall say to them, ‘This is the offering made by fire which you shall offer to the Lord: two male lambs in their first year without blemish, day by day, as a regular burnt offering.

Sabbath Offerings

9 ‘And on the Sabbath day two lambs in their first year, without blemish, and two-tenths of an ephahof fine flour as a grain offering, mixed with oil, with its drink offering— 10 this is the burnt offering for every Sabbath, besides the regular burnt offering with its drink offering.

Monthly offerings

11 ‘At the beginnings of your months you shall present a burnt offering to the Lord: two young bulls, one ram, and seven lambs in their first year, without blemish; …..  15 Also one kid of the goats as a sin offering to the Lord shall be offered, besides the regular burnt offering and its drink offering.

Have you noticed that regular Sabbath offerings never overlap the monthly offering given on New Moon Day but the do overlap the monthly offering?

If you were correct that your Gregorian calendar was right how can you then explain how Saturday the 2nd of July 2011.  Is a New Moon Day and also falls on a Saturday (the day you hold as the Sabbath). I do not see the verse saying anything about what happens when the Daily offering, Sabbath offering and New Moon offering overlap. Only when the Daily and the Sabbath offering overlap and the Monthly and the Daily offering overlap.

Numbers 29:1-6

29 ‘And in the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall have a holy convocation. You shall do no customary work. For you it is a day of blowing the trumpets. 2 You shall offer a burnt offering as a sweet aroma to the Lord: one young bull, one ram, and seven lambs in their first year, without blemish. 3 Their grain offering shall be fine flour mixed with oil: three-tenths of an ephah for the bull, two-tenths for the ram, 4 and one-tenth for each of the seven lambs; 5 also one kid of the goats as a sin offering, to make atonement for you;6 besides the burnt offering with its grain offering for the New Moon, the regular burnt offering with its grain offering, and their drink offerings, according to their ordinance, as a sweet aroma, an offering made by fire to the Lord.

Yes. I agree. They had to make three types of sacrifices. Daily, New Moon and the “Trumpets” Sacrifice.

Numbers 28:17-23

17 And on the fifteenth day of this month is the feast; unleavened bread shall be eaten for seven days. 18 On the first day you shall have a holy convocation. You shall do no customary work. 19 And you shall present an offering made by fire as a burnt offering to the Lord: two young bulls, one ram, and seven lambs in their first year. Be sure they are without blemish. 20 Their grain offering shall be of fine flour mixed with oil: three-tenths of an ephah you shall offer for a bull, and two-tenths for a ram; 21 you shall offer one-tenth of an ephah for each of the seven lambs; 22 also one goat as a sin offering, to make atonement for you.23 You shall offer these besides the burnt offering of the morning, which is for a regular burnt offering.

Yes. Here we have the Sabbath of Unleavened bread. Yes it has its own offering for the feast of unleavened bread. Yes it has the daily offering as well. Yes it does not have a normal Sabbath offering.

You are again assuming that this would be wrong if it were a Sabbath day. I invite you to take a look again at your Gregorian Calendar and go Back to the 22nd of April 2005. At this point in time the Gregorian Calendar Sabbaths, also line up with the Lunar solar Calendar Sabbaths. If you were correct, this could not possibly happen as it causes the very thing you are saying should not occur.

And even if you agree that the Gregorian Calendar did not exist then, but you still believe that the seven day cycled continuously, you still end up with the same problem I have shown you above. There will be a sabbath were this will occur.

Numbers 28:26-31

Feast of Weeks

26 Also in the day of the firstfruits, when ye bring a new meat offering unto the Lord, after your weeks be out, ye shall have an holy convocation; ye shall do no servile work:

27 But ye shall offer the burnt offering for a sweet savour unto the Lord; two young bullocks, one ram, seven lambs of the first year;

28 And their meat offering of flour mingled with oil, three tenth deals unto one bullock, two tenth deals unto one ram,

29 A several tenth deal unto one lamb, throughout the seven lambs;

30 And one kid of the goats, to make an atonement for you.

31 Ye shall offer them beside the continual burnt offering, and his meat offering, (they shall be unto you without blemish) and their drink offerings.

Here it is proposed that because the day does not have the usual Sabbath rituals, that the day it is held upon cannot be a Sabbath. Again. You have a problem when you go the the Feast of Weeks Festival held on May 29-30 2020. It starts on Saturday. My point is if it can happen on this date, it can happen when these events were occurring in the days of Moses and Aaron if they were using a 7 day cycle as you propose.

******************

Numbers 29:7-11

Day of attonement

And ye shall have on the tenth day of this seventh month an holy convocation; and ye shall afflict your souls: ye shall not do any work therein:

But ye shall offer a burnt offering unto the Lord for a sweet savour; one young bullock, one ram, and seven lambs of the first year; they shall be unto you without blemish:

And their meat offering shall be of flour mingled with oil, three tenth deals to a bullock, and two tenth deals to one ram,

10 A several tenth deal for one lamb, throughout the seven lambs:

11 One kid of the goats for a sin offering; beside the sin offering of atonement, and the continual burnt offering, and the meat offering of it, and their drink offerings.

Yes. The Daily Sacrifice and the Day of Atonement sacrifice occurred on this day. Again. It would be good if you checked that your calendar system did not do this. October 4th 2014 is a Saturday and is also the Day of atonement. This simply is not possible if we follow the way you propose, that the Sabbath day (of the Gregorian Calendar) can not be on the Day of atonement.

Numbers 29:12-16

12 And on the fifteenth day of the seventh month ye shall have an holy convocation; ye shall do no servile work, and ye shall keep a feast unto the Lord seven days:

13 And ye shall offer a burnt offering, a sacrifice made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the Lord; thirteen young bullocks, two rams, and fourteen lambs of the first year; they shall be without blemish:

14 And their meat offering shall be of flour mingled with oil, three tenth deals unto every bullock of the thirteen bullocks, two tenth deals to each ram of the two rams,

15 And a several tenth deal to each lamb of the fourteen lambs:

16 And one kid of the goats for a sin offering; beside the continual burnt offering, his meat offering, and his drink offering.

If we follow your premise again, on the 19th of October 2013 is the First day of the Feast of Tabernacles. In this case it is also a Saturday. If it can happen in this timeline, and you assert that the 7 day cycle was never broken, then it can happen with Moses and Aaron.

********************

1:03:26

Numbers 29:2..35

2 ‘On the fifteenth day of the seventh month you shall have a holy convocation.

17 ‘On the second day present twelve young bulls (16th)

20 ‘On the third day present eleven bulls (17th)

23 ‘On the fourth day present ten bulls (18th)

26 ‘On the fifth day present nine bulls (19th)

29 ‘On the sixth day present eight bulls (20th)

32 ‘On the seventh day present seven bulls (21st)

35 ‘On the eighth day you shall have a sacred assembly (22nd day)

Again, if you are correct that the 22nd day is not a Sabbath, please explain how October the 26th 2013 (a Saturday using your Calendar) is a Sabbath and is the eighth day of the Feast of Tabernacles as you state that this is not possible. If it is possible, then why would you utilise a) the gregorian based Calendar and b) a repeating seven day cycle.

1:06:25

The way you propose, you cannot have these Sabbath Sacrifices unless it is a Sabbath, even though the Bible states that these Sabbath sacrifices were not to be given on these days. It sounds to me like you are adding your own words to the Bible, where it clearly does not say this.

The Mark of the Beast will be given to those who do not worship on Sunday. So this includes those who worship on Saturday and those who use the Biblical method to calculate the Sabbath days.

My suggestion is that everyone looks at the Biblical Calendar, then takes a look at the calendar they are now using, and see if you are able to track Saturday as the Sabbath day, back to the beginning of time. If you cannot, ask why.

Then take a look at the Calendar system presented in the Bible and ask why God would provide us with this Calendar, now and when time started here on earth. He wanted to provide us with a way to work out his Sabbath days, no matter what happened in between.
